THREE OAKS, Mich. – River Valley School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian C. Brown as Superintendent. Brown brings more than three decades of experience spanning educational leadership, finance, business management, teaching, and community service.
Brown most recently served as Director of Finance & Operations for River Valley School District. Prior to that, he provided financial leadership and support to school districts across the region through Berrien RESA's Business Manager Services division. His longstanding connection to River Valley began in 2016 when he joined the district as Business Manager, helping guide financial planning, operational excellence, and strategic decision-making.
"Brian's extensive knowledge of River Valley Schools, combined with his commitment to students, staff, and the community, makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead the district during this transition," said Board President Nikki Springer. "His experience in both education and business leadership provides a strong foundation for continued success."
Before entering school administration, Brown spent 14 years as a fifth-grade teacher at Buchanan Community Schools, where he developed a passion for student success and educational excellence. Earlier in his career, he served in leadership roles within the financial services industry.
Brown holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University, a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Administration from Indiana University South Bend. He has also maintained certification through the Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) organization since 2015.
In addition to his professional career, Brown has been deeply involved in community leadership. He has served on the Honor Credit Union Board of Directors since 2003, currently serving as Board Chair.
A lifelong resident of Southwest Michigan, Brown grew up in Buchanan and now resides in Niles with his wife of 26 years, Doreen.

"Having worked alongside our dedicated staff, students, families, and community members for many years, I look forward to continuing the district's tradition of excellence while supporting opportunities for every student to succeed."
As Superintendent, Brown will focus on maintaining stability, supporting student achievement, and advancing the district's strategic priorities while continuing to build strong relationships throughout the River Valley community.
