Recognition of Service for Jenny Alderink

On behalf of the River Valley Schools community, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Jenny Alderink for her eight years of dedicated service as a member of the Board of Education.

Serving on a school board is often a thankless responsibility, requiring countless hours of preparation, meetings, community engagement, and difficult decision-making. Throughout her tenure, Jenny consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the students, staff, families, and taxpayers of River Valley Schools.

As Jenny concludes her service on the Board of Education, we offer our thanks for her leadership, commitment, and countless contributions over the past eight years. We wish her and her family all the best in the years ahead and are grateful for the legacy of service she leaves behind.

Thank you, Jenny, for your dedication to River Valley Schools and the entire River Valley community.

New Cell Phone Policy for 2026-2027

River Valley is making changes to our cell phone expectations due to the passage of a new State of Michigan law requiring schools to limit student cell phone use during instructional time.

Grades 6-8: Phones will be off and put away all day.
Grades 9-12: Phones may be used during lunch and passing time, but must be off and away during class.

The goal is simple: fewer distractions, more learning, and more opportunities for students to connect.

Thank you, families, for your support as we put these new requirements in place!

See the graphic below for more details.

We hope you have had a wonderful summer! Please use the link below to access the first edition of The Mustang Messenger 2026/2027.

KINDNESS WALK FEATURED ON WSJM

Eric Hoppstock, Superintendent of Berrien RESA; Dr. Lisa Carlos, RVE Principal; and student, Abbigail Shaw, were featured on the radio show that BRESA organizes with WSJM. The show was about the Kindness Walk that Dr. Carlos helped to coordinate for our elementary school back in March. Kindness is one of our core values as a district and is a nearly universal value to guide how we treat people as we'd want to be treated. I'd urge you to listen in:Always Learning with Berrien RESA https://omny.fm/shows/news-talk-sports-94-9-wsjm/always-learning-with-berrien-resa-kindness-walk
